Mauro Bonacina : MILANO.ITALIA.16/09/10.19:00

SEPTEMBER 16 - OCTOBER 7, 2010

Conceived specifically for the new space located in Via Larga 6, the show – entitled “MILANO.ITALIA.16/09/10.19:00” – will premiere the polymorphous practice of Bonacina, which includes not only works continuing the legacy of traditional media, such as painting and sculpture, but also ephemeral and performative interventions.

In accordance with the tradition of Lucie Fontaine’s entourage, some of Bonacina’s works on view are made with domestic materials like sheets and light bulbs, and some of the works will be ‘activated’ by the artist. The exhibition starts with London.England.02/06/10.22:47, in which a light bulb hung on an electric cord has been placed inside an empty bottle of gin sitting on the floor.

In the second room, two works face each other. London.England.20/07/10.19:52, is a video documentation of one of Bonacina’s performative interventions where he throws a message tied to a brick through the glass of a front door that has been suspended from the ceiling – a parody of rebellion.

Facing the video, a work on paper entitled London.England.04/09/10.9:47, in which Bonacina makes reference to the still life genre by spray-stenciling a real flower onto the paper. Having been conceived especially for the space, where daily music lessons are held, Milan.Italy.15/09/10.18:17 consists of an pack of chewing gum, which is chewed by Bonacina and placed beneath the keyboards during the performance, in reference to bored students who place chewing gum under the table during class.

Concluding the exhibition are three works: Milan.Italy.15/09/10.21:03 (The 500th word that came in to my head), in which the artist takes a typical pack of 500 A4 paper sheets and writes a logical chain of words. Stuck into the pile, the only word reveled is the last one. London.England.17/07/10.11:44 is a painting mimicking the act of making snow angels. Lastly, just before opening the show, Bonacina provides himself with an escape: Milan.Italy.16/09/10.18:59 is a sculpture consisting of a line of bed sheets.
