Alice Mandelli ~ Alice Tomaselli

MAY 9 - 25 2012

Lucie Fontaine is pleased to present the third exhibition at her Stockholm satellite. Entitled “Alice Mandelli ~ Alice Tomaselli” this exhibition will include works by Italian artists Alice Mandelli and Alice Tomaselli. Part of Lucie Fontaine’s entourage, born in the same week, Tomaselli and Mandelli have been in continuous dialogue over the last four years. This project – introduced by Lucie Fontaine’s d’après of Tauba Auerbach – presents a series of oeuvres carefully selected in order to suggest connections and discrepancies between their modus operandi.

On one hand Alice Mandelli (*1983, lives and works in Milan) is presenting a selection of oeuvres that are based on language. In some cases language is used in dada-poetic way like the work Far Away Monkeys or in another case the sentence «Io, che ho nostalgia anche di un minuto fa» [me, being nostalgic of a minute ago] from the movie Me, Me, Me… and The Others (1966) becomes the core of a very abstract self portrait. Also in the show are a series of works based on the sign of the Taurus, which is her astrological sign as well as that of Tomaselli. Presented together with these works is a site-specific intervention consisting of dry leaves to be dispersed in the exhibition space.

On the other hand Alice Tomaselli (*1982, lives and works in Tokyo) is presenting a selection of oeuvres that are based on the love of art materials. This can be traced back to the personal life of the artist, who, for the last six years, has owned an art supply store together with her mother Rita (aka Colorita). This intimacy with the material of art par excellence – the canvas – has generated a series of bitten, kissed and licked artworks where Tomaselli has substituted the brush with her own mouth. Presented together with these works is a site-specific intervention consisting of a curtain that will be displayed in the office of Iaspis director Lisa Rosendahl.

Lucie Fontaine’s Stockholm satellite is located at Iaspis, on Maria Skolgata 83, and is open from Monday to Friday from 9 am to noon and from 1 pm to 5 pm or by appointment. If you need further information please contact Lucie Fontaine’s employees: employee@luciefontaine.com.
