PAULA BRUNNER ABELOW
FEBRUARY 13 - March 25 2014
1
Sea Resort , 1953
I loved the patterns on the beach and the sunshine on the houses; watercolor was my answer.
2
On the Beach , 1948
Capturing a realistic beach scene was fun!
3
Turmoil Under the Sea , 1965
I went through a period of “Minimal Art” expressing my inside feelings. It could have been a bellyache!
4
Dancing #2 , 1965
This shows my lifelong love of dancing in the “minimal” style.
5
Time Goes By , 1965
A couple is so engrossed with each other that time stands still; minimal style.
6
New York City Backyard , 1948
This is a realistic pencil study of the backyard from our 69th street furnished apartment after we got married.
7
New York City Backyard , 1948
Final “Backyard” in color – I’m pleased with the architectural semi-abstraction.
8
New York City Backyard , 1948
This is a semi-abstract tempera painting in light and dark values.
9
Abstraction , circa 1960s
I am fascinated by quasi-rectangular shapes and limited color scheme: reds and blues.
10
Ira Fishing , 1953
We spent many summers at the seashore; aside from the usual pleasures of the beach we pursued our avocations: Ira fishing and I painting.
11
Artist , 1953
She struck me in her simplicity – the result a semi-abstraction with tempera paint.
