2009 : NO SOUL FOR SALE, X-INITIATIVE, NEW YORK

At No Soul for Sale at X-Initiative Lucie Fontaine presented a sample of her activities as gallery owner. In doing so she commissioned a series of small-portable works to artists Riccardo Beretta, Lupo Borgonovo, Valerio Carrubba, Cleo Fariselli, Enza Galantini, Alessandro Roma, Marcella Vanzo and Mauro Vignando – together with ephemeral interventions by Alice Mandelli and Marcello Martin, Lucie Fontaine’s ghostly comrades.
All the artists invited have been already involved in Lucie Fontaine’s operations, constituting the core of her Milan’s rendezvous. Inspired by Duchamp’s Boîte-en-valis, Lucie Fontaine put her employee Alice Tomaselli in charge for this mission, asking her to make the whole environment ‘suitable’ for her suitcase.
In addition, Lucie Fontaine asked Galantini to transform the suitcase – the support – in a work of art. All the oeuvres were displayed on a surface that is mocking the marbled floor of Lucie Fontaine’s space in Milan. The booth also featured portfolios of the artists and DVDs of Lift by David Robbins that will be screened during No Soul for Sale’s program of videos, lectures and performances.
