MARCELLA VANZO : INLAND ARCHIPELAGO

MARCH 28 - MAY 11, 2014

Lucie Fontaine is pleased to announce “Inland Archipelago” a project by Marcella Vanzo. The project will open on March 28, 2014 from 7 to 11 pm at Lucie Fontaine’s space in via Rinaldo Rigola 1 in Milan, and will run until May 11, 2014. On the occasion of miart – the Milan art fair – the space will be open on March 29-30 from noon to 7 pm.

Lucie Fontaine and Marcella Vanzo have been collaborators for more than five years. After working together in Milan, Prague and New York, they decided to work together again. This time the project is based on proximity. Lucie Fontaine’s space and Marcella Vanzo’s living and working spaces are located in the same neighbourhood in Milan, the so-called “Isola” [island]. Continuing the experimental nature of her Milanese program and the focus on Italian artistic production, Lucie Fontaine invited Marcella Vanzo to transform the exhibition space into an extension of her working and living space, to connect her studio space and her house with the gallery space.

From March 28 to May 11, Marcella Vanzo will present works in progress but also she will organize meetings with friends and collaborators, merging the concept of studio and house with that of exhibition space, the practice of ‘visit’ with that of public program. ‘Witnesses’ of this marriage will be the artworks themselves – unfinished pieces by Vanzo, embryo-like artworks that mix photography, ceramic, found images and objet trouvé that question the notion of femininity, human desire, body, deception and obsession.

Continuing her wish to champion experimental artistic processes that are not exclusively focused on the result, Lucie Fontaine will present an open-ended project that is nurtured and fuelled by the energy of Marcella Vanzo and of her guest artists:

Sebastiano Mauri, Face Factory, April 7, from 6 pm
Marta Pierobon, Le comparse, April 16, from 7 pm
Alice Mandelli & Paolo Maria Noseda, Ti chiamo domani, May 7, from 7 pm

Perfectly in tune with the politics of the space in Via Rigola 1, Vanzo’s “Inland Archipelago” analyzes the act of sharing, questions the hierarchy between the host and the guest and furthermore it reveals different aspects of her creative processes.

Marcella Vanzo was born in 1973 in Milan where she currently lives and works. Her play QUEI 2 debuted last February at Teatro Studio di Scandicci and will open on April 26 and 27 at Teatro Valle Occupato in Rome. For more information: www.marcellavanzo.com

Lucie Fontaine will be open every Tuesday from 3 to 7 pm and by appointment.
